Luka Doncic scored 40 points for his sixth straight game of at least 35, and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Sacramento Kings 116-103 on Wednesday night.
Doncic has 308 points in eight games this season. He is the first player to top 300 through his first eight games since Michael Jordan scored 303 in 1988-89.
Only Wilt Chamberlain has scored more in his first eight games of a season. He did it three times, peaking at 418 in 1962-63.
Doncic shot 11 of 23, made six 3-pointers and went 12 of 13 at the free-throw line. He added nine rebounds and seven assists.
He has posted at least 35 points, five rebounds, five assists and five 3-pointers in all six games of the run, a first in NBA history.
It was also his 66th career game with that line, moving him past Stephen Curry for second all time, according to the Lakers.
The game turned late in the second quarter. Doncic scored 11 straight points, including three straight 3-pointers, to put the Lakers up 57-48, and they led the rest of the way.
Late in the third quarter, a fan near the baseline threw a loose ball hard at official Chelisa Painter. Doncic immediately pointed at the fan, and security removed him from his seat.
Austin Reaves scored 21 points. Walker Kessler had 15 points, eight rebounds, four blocks and three steals.
The Lakers (7-2) won their third straight game. Doncic had 45 points and 15 rebounds in Monday’s 131-125 win over Toronto.
Rookie Darius Acuff Jr., the No. 7 pick in the 2026 draft, led Sacramento with 22 points and 12 assists on 8-of-24 shooting.
Zach LaVine scored 21, and Domantas Sabonis had 16 points and 17 rebounds.
The Kings fell to 1-7 two days after their first win, at Dallas. They are 0-3 at home.
The Lakers host Portland on Friday at 10 p.m. ET on Prime Video in an NBA Cup game. The Trail Blazers beat them 136-129 on Oct. 27 despite 41 points from Doncic.
Sacramento hosts San Antonio on Friday at 10 p.m. ET.
