Norchad Omier chooses Cavaliers over Timberwolves

Norchad Omier has changed his decision and plans to sign a two-way contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers instead of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Michael Scotto reported Tuesday, November 3. The change comes after Omier had agreed to a two-way deal with Minnesota.

The Timberwolves now have an open two-way roster spot after deciding to waive forward Enrique Freeman, according to Scotto. Freeman is dealing with a minor injury expected to keep him out for a few weeks.

Omier, 25, played for the Cleveland Charge in the G League during the 2025-26 season, averaging 18.5 points, 11 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 31 games. He shot 60.1% from the field and 29.3% from three-point range in 28.9 minutes per game.

The 6-foot-7 forward also appeared in six NBA games for the Los Angeles Clippers last season, averaging 2.8 points and 1.2 rebounds in 3.8 minutes. He spent part of the season with the Ontario Clippers, recording 17.3 points and 13.4 rebounds across seven G League appearances.

Omier played college basketball at Arkansas State, Miami and Baylor. In his final NCAA season with Baylor in 2024-25, he averaged 15.6 points and 10.9 rebounds in 34 games, shooting 54.9% from the field.

Cleveland is 4-3 through seven games in the 2026-27 season. The Cavaliers have Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley in their frontcourt, while Thomas Bryant has appeared in two games.

Minnesota is 5-3 after eight games. Freeman averaged 16.5 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists in the G League with the Iowa Wolves last season, shooting 54.2% from the field.
