The New Orleans Pelicans have reportedly set a high asking price for Trey Murphy III as trade interest in the talented wing continues around the NBA.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, New Orleans has been unwilling to move Murphy without receiving a significant package of future draft assets.
During an appearance on the ALL NBA Podcast, Stein revealed that the Pelicans were seeking three first-round picks in exchange for Murphy last season.
“And New Orleans last season basically was telling teams, trade Trey Murphy and Herb Jones if they are not untouchable, it’s pretty dang close. You’re going to have to offer us three firsts for Trey Murphy or two firsts for Herb Jones.”
Murphy has been mentioned in trade speculation for more than a year as the Pelicans have struggled to establish themselves as a consistent playoff contender.
Despite the team’s difficulties, New Orleans has remained reluctant to part with the 26-year-old forward, who provides perimeter shooting, scoring, and versatility.
The Pelicans’ reported asking price reflects their high valuation of Murphy, who remains one of the franchise’s most attractive trade assets.
It remains uncertain whether New Orleans would consider moving Murphy for a smaller package or continue demanding multiple first-round selections in any potential deal.
