Anthony Edwards to miss up to two months after knee procedure

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee Thursday and is expected to miss up to two months, Shams Charania reported Tuesday, October 27.

The procedure will address an issue with the same knee Edwards injured last season. According to Charania’s report on SportsCenter, Edwards re-injured the knee during Minnesota’s season opener in Miami, then underwent additional imaging after continuing to play.

Despite the injury, Edwards scored 47 points against Cleveland on Monday. Further imaging showed increased issues with the knee, prompting Edwards and the Timberwolves to address the problem now rather than risk it lingering into the second half of the season.

“It’s not about individual accolades or All-NBAs or anything else,” Charania said, relaying a message from Edwards’ manager, Justin Holland. “It’s a single focus for Anthony Edwards. That’s winning a championship.”

The expected absence is a major setback for Minnesota, which will be without its leading scorer for an extended stretch. Edwards has averaged 33.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists through four games this season, shooting 48.1% from the field and 40% from three-point range.

The 25-year-old guard averaged a career-high 28.8 points per game in 61 appearances during the 2025-26 season. He made the All-Star team and shot 39.9% from beyond the arc.

Charania reported that the injury will also rule Edwards out of consideration for individual honors such as MVP and All-NBA teams. Minnesota’s priority is to have him fully recovered for the second half of the campaign.

Edwards has earned All-NBA Second Team honors in each of the past two seasons and finished seventh in MVP voting in both 2023-24 and 2024-25.
