The Charlotte Hornets will retire the No. 1 jersey of franchise legend Muggsy Bogues on February 11, recognizing his contributions to the organization and his place in NBA history.
Bogues, who stands 5-foot-3 (1.60 meters), remains the shortest player ever to compete in the NBA.
Despite his height, he established himself as a successful point guard and spent the majority of his professional career with Charlotte.
The former NBA guard played 14 seasons in the league, including 10 with the Hornets from 1988 to 1998.
During that period, he became one of the franchise’s most recognizable players and helped establish the team’s identity during its early years.
Bogues remains Charlotte’s all-time leader in assists, steals and minutes played, reflecting his longevity and consistent role with the organization.
Originally selected by the Washington Bullets with the 12th overall pick in the 1987 NBA Draft, Bogues joined Charlotte in 1988 as part of the franchise’s inaugural roster.
He went on to play 632 regular-season games for the Hornets, averaging 8.8 points, 8.8 assists and 1.7 steals per contest during his time with the team.
Bogues also played for the Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors before concluding his NBA career in 2001.
