Brandon Miller scored a career-high 39 points to lead the Charlotte Hornets to a 110-103 victory over the Washington Wizards on Monday night at Spectrum Center, improving to 3-1 through the first four games of the 2026-27 NBA season.
Miller scored 27 points across the second and third quarters as Charlotte took control after trailing 21-19 at the end of the first. The fourth-year guard finished 15-of-28 from the field, made five of his 10 three-point attempts and added six rebounds, three steals and two blocks in 36 minutes.
The 2023 first-round pick out of Alabama has now scored at least 30 points in consecutive games for the fourth time in his career. He also reached the 30-point mark for the 14th time. Miller signed a five-year, $209 million contract extension a week before Monday’s game.
Charlotte led 98-84 with 5:15 remaining, but Washington mounted a late comeback by making five three-pointers down the stretch. The Wizards cut the deficit to 103-100 with 1:13 left before Miller answered with a jumper and a free throw to help secure the win, making it 106-100 with 38.3 seconds remaining.
Naz Reid recorded 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Hornets, while Moussa Diabate contributed 11 points and a game-high 17 rebounds. Grayson Allen added 15 points, going 7-of-7 from the free-throw line.
Charlotte continued to win despite missing three players who have yet to appear this season: Coby White (left calf strain), Kon Knueppel (left hamstring strain) and Grant Williams (right hamstring strain).
Anthony Davis led Washington with 29 points and 10 rebounds, while Trae Young had 22 points and 10 assists. Kyshawn George scored 20 points, and Alex Sarr added 12 points and six rebounds. The Wizards fell to 2-2 after missing the chance to open the season with three wins in their first four games for the first time since 2022-23.
Washington also lost forward Justin Champagnie to a right foot injury in the first quarter. The Wizards remained without AJ Dybantsa, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, whose debut has been delayed by a left ankle sprain.
The defeat ended Davis’ personal winning streak against Charlotte, which had lost 10 consecutive games against teams featuring him since March 2016.
The Wizards visit the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday, while the Hornets travel to face the Detroit Pistons.
