After experiencing injury setbacks, Ben Simmons is ready to take the next step.
The former Rookie of the Year is playing his eighth season after sitting out the entire 2025-26 regular season to rehabilitate back and leg injuries and has just officially made his on-court return with the Sacramento Kings.
Simmons said he is more than excited to help the Kings compete after several setbacks, not just from injuries, but also from rebuilding confidence.
“It felt really good. When you’re out for a year and come back, it’s a good feeling to just be out there and compete and get the first one out of the way,” Simmons said.
The 6-foot-10 swingman feels this upcoming season differently because he can be more aggressive and is healthier than ever to compete.
“A lot of it is just being healthy and being able to do what I do, and also adding to that, being more aggressive,” Simmons said. “I’m older now. I’m about the same player I was a few years ago, especially given that I’m healthy,” he added.
In terms of reading in-game situations, Simmons emphasized his change of perspective and mindset despite sitting out for a whole year in the previous campaign.

“The game has just slowed down a lot for me, and I see a lot more now. Having a lot of years under my belt, the game has slowed down for me, and I can make better decisions. Obviously, I haven’t played in a year, but I still feel confident out there to make the right plays,” he said.
The Kings forward is a three-time NBA All-Star and a first overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2016.
