The NBA could continue with the launch of NBA Europe even if its negotiations with EuroLeague fail to produce an agreement.

While discussions with EuroLeague shareholders continue, preparations for the NBA’s new European competition are moving forward separately.

NBA Europe is targeted for the 2027-28 season and is expected to feature 16 teams.

Under the reported format, 12 would hold permanent places, while another four spots would be available through qualification.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the project is expected to proceed regardless of whether the NBA ultimately reaches an agreement with EuroLeague.

That possibility could leave European basketball with separate EuroLeague and NBA Europe competitions if the organizations are unable to establish a partnership.
