Jason Kidd could be preparing for a move into television after his departure from the Dallas Mavericks, with the former head coach reportedly in advanced discussions to join ESPN as a studio analyst.
Kidd became available this offseason when Dallas made changes to its basketball operations.
After Masai Ujiri was hired as president of basketball operations, the Mavericks dismissed Kidd and later appointed Dusty May as their new head coach.
A potential ESPN role would represent another change in direction for Kidd, who has spent much of his post-playing career on NBA coaching staffs.
Following his dismissal as head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, Kidd joined the Los Angeles Lakers as an assistant coach.
He later returned to a head-coaching position when the Mavericks hired him.
ESPN, meanwhile, has an opening on its studio team after Michael Malone left the network to join the University of North Carolina.
With discussions reportedly at an advanced stage, Kidd could fill that vacancy and transition from coaching to analyzing the NBA on television.
