Jabari Walker enters the season with some uncertainty surrounding his place on the Philadelphia 76ers’ roster because most of his contract isn’t guaranteed.
Walker is scheduled to make $2.6 million, but only $250,000 of that amount is guaranteed.
That could put his roster spot under consideration before the NBA-wide salary guarantee date on January 10.
The forward played well off the bench for Philadelphia last season, although he may have fewer opportunities this year.
One way for Walker to earn consistent minutes could be by showing that he can contribute as a backup center while providing physical defense.
Philadelphia currently has limited depth behind Joel Embiid. Dominick Barlow is more naturally suited to power forward, while Adem Bona and Ariel Hukporti are also competing for minutes at center.
Walker’s outside shooting could be another important factor.
Improving in that area while proving he can handle minutes at multiple frontcourt positions would increase his chances of remaining part of the Sixers’ rotation and roster.
