Vin Baker is pleased that his move to the Miami Heat will allow him to continue working closely with Giannis Antetokounmpo after the two spent years together in Milwaukee.
Baker joined Miami’s coaching staff this summer following eight seasons with the Bucks.
During that time, he developed a strong relationship with Antetokounmpo that extended beyond basketball, including helping officiate at Giannis’ wedding in 2024.
“We share a lot of things in common on the court,” Baker said.
“He’s obviously at a different level than I was as a player. But being an All-Star and being an Olympian and an All-NBA player, I do see some of the things that he sees on the court.
“And I try to help him see those things as well, especially post-ups and double-teams and things like that.
“But, again, our relationship goes beyond basketball. I’m just very fortunate to be here, part of this journey with him. And hopefully win another championship at some point.”
Baker believes his own experience as a former All-Star and All-NBA player helps him understand some of the situations Antetokounmpo encounters during games.
In particular, he has worked with Giannis on handling post-up situations and opposing double-teams.
