Lonzo Ball has denied reports that he retired from basketball, making clear that he still hopes to continue his NBA career.
Speculation began after Ball discussed his injury-plagued career on the “Ball in the Family Podcast,” admitting that repeated setbacks prevented him from reaching his full potential.
“To be honest, I don’t think I ever got to my peak. And damn, that sh** sucks, but at the same time there’s people that don’t have meals at night to eat. That’s how I look at the world,” Ball said.
The comments were interpreted on social media as a retirement announcement, but Ball quickly dismissed those reports.
“I retired? News to me lol cuz I’m still waiting for a call… NBA season long 🤷🏻♂️”.
The 28-year-old is currently an unrestricted free agent. He also revealed that he recently considered playing overseas in Dubai but decided against the move.
Ball entered the NBA as the Lakers’ No. 2 overall pick in 2017 before playing for the Pelicans, Bulls and Cavaliers.
Injuries significantly disrupted his career, including two consecutive missed seasons in Chicago.
Ball has career averages of 10.6 points and 5.6 assists per game. Despite uncertainty surrounding his future, he has made clear that retirement is not currently his plan.
