Jonathan Kuminga signs a deal with Timberwolves

Jonathan Kuminga has agreed to a two-year, $13 million contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves that includes a player option, his agent Aaron Turner told ESPN.

Kuminga is expected to immediately enter Minnesota’s starting lineup alongside Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert as the Timberwolves look to contend in the Western Conference.

The 23-year-old reportedly picked Minnesota over opportunities with the Lakers, Bulls and Trail Blazers.

Los Angeles had offered him a similar starting role and more than $12 million annually on a three-year contract.

Instead of taking the larger long-term commitment from the Lakers, Kuminga preferred Minnesota’s shorter deal, which gives him greater flexibility and more control over his future.

The player option could allow Kuminga to return to free agency relatively quickly if he performs well with the Timberwolves.
